Table of Contents

While working on these exercises, utilize the Help feature in MetaField (located in the upper right corner) to answer any questions.

Before You Begin

NOTE

One of the exercises in this section will ask you to enter a Soil Nuclear Gauge field test. This requires valid proctor results to be entered in the Lab module. While normally Field users would not use the Lab module, you should navigate to the Lab module in order to ensure a valid proctor for your project. This should be done on a PC, not on a mobile device.

Log in to MetaField at https://sandbox.agileframe.net

Navigate to LIMS > Soil Proctor Results > View Proctors.

Soil proctors are specific to each project. Type 123 into the Project Number field. Select Search. Select View Proctors for the project you selected.

Verify that at least one proctor is active for the project you are using. If there is not an active proctor, you can create one using the button Add Proctor For This Project.

You may now leave the Lab module and access the Field module. Ideally, the remainder of these exercises should be performed on a mobile device. Use the following link to access Field https://sandbox.agileframe.net/MetaField/Field.

Chose the same value for Technician and Sampled By for all exercises. (This will aid in your creation of Field Report.)

Project Search and Selection

NOTE

The first step in entering any field activity or test is to select a project.

1.Navigate to Field -> Density Testing.
2.Select Search Projects. Enter search criteria to locate a project.
3.Select your project from Search Results.
4.Going forward, you will only need to use this Search capability for finding projects when it is not available in the list of Recent Projects, which appears prior to entering any transaction.

Standardize a Nuclear Gauge

NOTE

Nuclear gauges are only available if your administrator has set them up in the Administrative area. Gauges need to be standardized the first time they are used within a 24-hour period.

1.Navigate to Field -> Gauge Standardization.
2.Choose a gauge from the drop down list. Then select Standardize Gauge.
3.

Enter necessary data. 

  1. Enter a standardization date.

  2. If the gauge had counts previously entered, enter new counts consistent with those shown.

  3. If the gauge has no counts associated with it, enter multiple rounds of counts, keeping the values consistent to ensure it will pass testing.

4.Run the test using Perform Test.
5.When the test passes, select Save Test Results.

Enter a Soil Nuclear Gauge Test

1.Navigate to Field -> Density Testing.
2.Search for or select a project.
3.Select Create New Test.
4.Select the Test Type: Soil Nuclear Gauge.
5.On the first page, at a minimum, enter all required information.
6.Use Get Location to take a reading of the coordinates of your testing location. This feature utilizes the GPS capabilities in your mobile device. If GPS capabilities are not enabled on your mobile device, or the device is unable to generate a reading, the latitude and longitude readings will be based on cell phone tower triangulation from your current signal, and may not be completely accurate.
7.Select the Specifications button to continue to the Specifications page.
    1. Select a Proctor.
    2. Ensure all required fields are populated. Settings in this area will pre-populate based on global definitions on the Administration tab, or project definitions from the Project Specifications module. They are also able to be modified on this screen, if required.
8.Select the Next button to continue to the Soil Nuclear Gauge Test page.
    1. Select a Gauge.
    2. Enter the other required values consistent with those for a live density test.
9.Note that the Density and Moisture Test results are now displayed near the bottom of this page.
10.Select the Next button to continue to the Notes and WBS page

There are no required fields on this page; however the following actions can be performed:

    1. Field Notes: Provide notes for the project's manager regarding this test. These notes will appear in QC; they will not appear on the report.
    1. Phase: For billing and/or tracking purposes, this test can be associated with a level of the work breakdown structure more defined than just Project. This can be defined by your organization prior to deployment. Common examples of association are Phase, Task or Activity levels.
12.Return to the Main Page by selecting Main.
13.Review the data you have entered.
14.Once all data has been entered to your satisfaction, at the bottom of the page select Save Test. (Do this even if the test has failed.)
15.After saving your test, use the Copy Last Test button to enter another test.
16.Begin to enter your data the same way as before, with one exception: For the purposes of this exercise, DO NOT select a Proctor. Select Pending Proctor instead.
17.Enter all required data on the other pages.
18.Note there will be no test results displayed.
19.Return to the Field main menu
20.Save this test. Confirm that you do indeed want to save this Pending Test.

Enter a Concrete Sample

NOTE

The Concrete area has an embedded chain-of-custody process for sample management. This exercise includes both data entry and sample management steps.

1.Navigate to the Field > Concrete / Grout / Mortar area.
2.Search for or select a project.
3.Select Add Concrete Sample.
4.Select the Sample Type of Cast Cylinder
5.On the first page, at a minimum, fill in all required fields.
6.Select Specifications to move to the Specifications page.
7.Enter all information on this page.
8.Select Next to move to the Batch Log page.
9.Enter all information on this page
10.Select Next to move to the Field Tests page.

Values may be pre-populated on this page due to Administrator configuration. However, values can be overridden as needed.

    1. Note the different types of fields and how they function as this is consistent throughout the Field module.
    2. In the Supplier, Plant, and Mix Design fields values can be selected from available options, or a new value can be typed in. A typed-in value will show in red text. This value will display on the report if not changed by a project manager.
    3. Enter all other information on this page.

Select Next to move to the Specimens page.

    1. Select 4"x 8" for your Specimen Size.
    2. A default set of Specimens may pre-populate depending on the settings in Administration. Default sets can be defined at a global level in Administration, or at a project level in Project Specifications.
    3. Edits can be made as needed - including adding or removing specimens from the set. 
    4. Enter all other information on this page.
      1. Note the Lab Instructions field is a way for field tech's to communicate important information about the specimen to Lab Personnel.
      2. Optional: add Lab Instructions to a specimen and after you complete logging/checking in the sample (see Manage Concrete Samples below) navigate to Lab > Concrete / Grout / Mortar and view your specimen in the "To Receive" Queue. Notice that the Lab Instructions will show up on the grid.
13.Select Next to move to the Notes and WBS page.

There are no required fields on this page; however the following actions can be performed:

15.Return to the Main Page by selecting Main.
16.Select Save as Draft. Note that Concrete Samples can be saved as Draft at any time, even if all required fields have not been filled out.
17.After the Sample is saved, note the Sample Number.
18.Select Copy Last Sample and enter all required fields for a Sample.
19.Once all data is entered, select Save. (The status of this Sample will now show as Logged throughout the system.)
20.Return to the Field main menu.

Manage Concrete Samples

1.Navigate to Field > Concrete > Manage Concrete Samples
2.Search for or select a project.
3.Adjust the Specimen Status filter to Draft to locate the Sample you previously saved as Draft.
4.Select the item. This will open the Sample and allow you to make changes and/or complete the transaction
5.Select Save.
6.Make note of the Sample number.
7.Select Manage Concrete Samples. This will show all of the Samples related to this project.
8.Locate one of the Samples you entered. It may help to use the Technician filter.
9.

Perform a Pickup for one or more Specimens related to this Sample.

    1. Select the ^ control next to the Sample.
    2. Enter information on the resulting page and Save.
10.

Perform a Check-In for the Specimens you just Picked up

    1. Select the √ control next to the Sample with the Specimens you recently Picked up. 

    2. Enter information for the check in, make sure the appropriate Specimens have been selected, and Save.

11.Optional: Repeat these steps for the second Sample you entered. 
12.Return to the Field main menu.

Create a Field Report

NOTE

Field reports can be signed and emailed if your organizational practices allow.

1.Navigate to Field > Field Reports.
2.In Field Reports, select Create Report.
3.Select Daily Field Report.
4.Select the date you logged your transactions, and/or the name of the technician related to your transactions.
5.Select Create Report.
6.On the resulting page, select all available check boxes if not selected already. Enter narrative in available fields.
7.Select Next
8.At a minimum, populate the required fields and add narrative in available fields.
9.Optional: Sign the report (if this option is provided and if you have an AgileStamp account).
10.Optional: Email the report (if this option is provided).
11.Select Submit.
12.Select View Existing Reports.
13.Select the report for your review.
14.Return to the Field main menu.
