QC - Concrete / Grout / Mortar

Table of Contents

Purpose

The Concrete / Grout / Mortar QC section allows you to review Concrete / Grout / Mortar samples and their specimens along with preparing reports.

Selecting Projects

You will need to search for a project from the project search panel.  Recent projects you have worked with will display below for easy access. Select View Samples to open the project and see the associated samples.

Main Screen

Specimen Record Buttons

ButtonPurpose
Edit
  • Add a Report Comment for a particular specimen
  • Add / remove the Hold designation on a specimen
  • Manage the Test Cost for a specimen
  • Exclude a specimen from test age average calculations.
Edit Pick Up
  • Modify specimen pick up metadata (temperatures, date, time, who, standard / field cure information, etc.)
Edit Check In
  • Modify specimen check in metadata (check in date, time, who, etc.)

Low breaks will highlight the compressive strength and % of specified strength values in red. Low breaks alert levels are configured in the Administration and Specifications module.

Specimen Statuses

Automatically Assigned

StatusDefinition

Draft

  • Sample has been saved, but has incomplete data

Logged

  • Specimen is ready to be Picked Up and/or Checked In

Picked Up

  • Specimen has been “Picked Up” and not yet checked into the lab
  • Pick Up process is optional in the Field module

Checked In

  • Specimen has been "Checked In" to the lab for testing
Lab-Review
  • Specimens being reviewed for quality by the lab
Analyzed
  • Testing is complete and test results are available for review by project managers
Missing Data
  • Sample record with a Draft supplier / plant / mix design

Manually Assigned

StatusDefinition

Review

  • Optional status that can be applied to any specimen that requires further review before reporting

Complete

  • Applied when test data review is complete and the specimen is ready for reporting

Uncollected

  • Specimens were never Picked Up or Checked In from the field

If a specimen is incorrectly marked as Uncollected in Field, a Quality Control user can set the status back to Logged. Likewise you can mark a specimen as Uncollected if this was not done in the field module.

A specimen cannot be reported on a lab / specimen report until it's status is set to Complete. Draft samples can't be added to any report.

Review Status

  • The use of the "Review" status can be determined by each business using MetaField.
  • A common use of the "Review" status is used to indicate that the QC user has started to review the Specimen, but is not yet ready for reporting.

Common Controls

ControlPurpose

  • Opens the sample record so it can be edited (sample grid)
  • Allows for report comments related to a specimen to be added (specimen grid)
  • Allows for a specimen to be excluded from the test age average calculation (specimen grid)

Specimen Grid Edits

  • If the Test Age and/or Hold indicator for a Specimen need to be edited, they must be edited prior to the Specimen being "Checked In"
  • If the change needs to be made after this point, the lab must be notified directly
  • Lab results can't be modified in the QC module - they must be changed in the Lab module

Editing Date Cast Date

  • The Cast / Logged Date for a sample may be edited until one more specimens has been checked-in to Lab. Once a specimen has been checked-in, this date cannot be changed unless you have the elevated Manage Concrete Sample Date permission that grants you access to change the date.
  • Indicates there are Field Notes that are part of the sample record
  • Field Notes are not reportable and visible (at the bottom) if you edit the sample record
  • Indicates if the sample is related to another sample
  • Typically used if you are casting more than one type of sample type from a given sample of concrete (i.e. casting some cylinders and creating a beam)

  • Shows the reports that a sample / specimen has been reported on

  • Allows for pickup information (curing metadata) to be modified

  • Allows for check in data to be modified

Creating Reports

Placement Summary Report

  • Select the samples you want to report
  • Choose if you want to the load volumes to be cumulated on the report
  • Supply the remaining report metadata (see table below)

Specimen (Lab Results) Report

  • Select the sample you want to report
  • Select the specimens you want to report for the selected sample
  • Choose if you want to include the curing information (min/max temperatures, initial curing environment, final curing environment, moisture protection, etc.) on the report
  • Supply the remaining report metadata (see table below)
  • Only lab results for specimens marked as Complete will display on lab reports.
  • See QC - Finalize Reports (All Areas) for details on the report finalization process.
  • Note individual compressive strengths for each break on the report are rounded numbers. The "Test Age Average" takes the unrounded individual compressive strengths when calculating the average (per ASTM C39 section 10.1.6).

Creating Batch Specimen Reports

There are times where it is helpful to create specimen reports for multiple sets at the same time. Simply mark the sets you want to report and click the Create Batch Specimen Report button. A preview window will be presented that allows project managers to review and select if each report should be deleted (not approved), saved as a Draft report (Draft Reports QC workflow) or Finalized. Report metadata only needs to be supplied once and is common for ALL reports processed as part of the Batch Specimen Report workflow.

When using this functionality, you are required to select like sample types (i.e. all marked records are cast cylinder records). You are NOT allowed to create a batch report with a mix of beams and cast cylinder records, for example.

The Report Review screen allows you change the Label and Description for individual reports.
