Purpose

The LIMS work queues are used to manage the progression of concrete / grout / mortar specimens through a general lab workflow through the use of various queues.

Example
To Receive
  • Specimens are logged and checked-in via the Field component, but have not yet been “Received” by the lab
.
  • By default, specimens are sorted by Sample # and then by Set # - Spec #. You can change the sort order by selecting most of the column headings.
  • Lab user must “Receive” Specimens in the Lab to confirm delivery and initiate the Lab testing process.

    1. Select the To Receive queue.
    2. Set filters to return desired specimens.
    3. Select each Specimen to be received (using checkboxes).
    4. Select Receive Specimens button.
    5. You will be prompted to print a label for each specimen.
      Selecting OK to print labels. Select Cancel to not print labels.
    • To only print a specimen label, choose Print Label.
    • You can print a list of specimens that are in this queue by selecting Print Receiving List.
    • To change the lab on a specimen, choose Change Lab and a list of Active Labs will be available for you to select from.

    Receive Specimens
    • Receives the marked specimens in to the lab workflow
    Print Label
    • Prints a specimen label for marked specimens
    • Labs configured with a label printer (in Admin) will ask the user if they want to print a label when Receiving specimens
    Print Receiving List
    • Prints a list of specimens in the To Receive queue
    Change Lab
    • Changes the lab a specimen is associated with / checked into
    Add Specimen
    • Adds a missing specimen to a selected set
    View Field Data
    • Opens QC to view additional metadata (i.e. field test results) for a specimen
    • Sample/Specimen data can be updated with the appropriate permission level
    • "i" icon in the grid on the far right


    Testable
    • Specimens have been received by the lab, but have not yet reached their Test Age.
    Adjustments to the Specimen Test Date can be performed by selecting

  • If the Test Date is modified to the current date (or a date that has passed), the Specimen will automatically move to the To Test queue where test results can be entered.
  • You may also Print an Early Break List or Density List  from this queue by selecting the appropriate control.
  • Testable queue is broken up by Sample Type.
  • From the Density Testable queue you can edit previous test rounds.
    • Changes the test date (and test age) for marked specimens

    • Prints a break list / density list for a user-supplied test date
    • Gives user the option to print for current sample type or all sample types
    • Sorts report to match sort order applied to the grid

    To Test
    • Specimens have been received by the lab and have reached their Test Age
    .
  • Lab results are entered in the To Test queue.
  • Broken out into each Sample Type.
  • You can print a list to manually record test results which will be later entered into MetaField Lab. This list will display all specimens in the To Test queue. To do this, select the Print Break List button.
  • You can also view a list of Fracture Types or Remark codes and descriptions by selecting the corresponding buttons.
  • Specimens that have exceeded their Test Age are highlighted in red.

    TipWhen entering test data for more than one specimen, if test results are the same for an entire column of fields,
    use the Fill feature to apply the same value to multiple specimens.

    • Prints a break list / density list for a user-supplied test date
    • Gives user the option to print for current sample type or all sample types

    Enter Test Results
    • Opens data entry grid to enter test results
    Tip

    For Cast Cylinders, the Pencil icon to the left of the Sample Number column can be used to open a pop up to enter results for that ONE specimen.
    This is useful when entering lab results directly at compression machines.


    View Break Remarks

    • Displays a legend of break remarks / lab remarks that can be assigned to tested specimens

    • Changes the lab a specimen is associated with / checked into
    View Fracture Types
    • Displays a legend of fracture types that can be assigned to tested specimens

    • Adds a missing specimen to a selected set
    View Field Data
    • Opens QC to view additional metadata (i.e. field test results) for a specimen

    To Review
    • After lab results are entered and saved in the To Test Queue, the specimen will automatically move here
    .
  • For this queue, you can edit and approve test results entered.
  • To change test results, select the test and click Edit Results
  • For Cast Cylinders and Beam specimens, once approved the specimen will move to the Analyzed work queue and lab results are returned to Quality Control and Dashboard
  • For Density Test specimens, if testing is complete, the specimen will move to the Analyzed work queue and lab results are returned to Quality Control and Dashboard.
    However, if future testing must be performed on the Density Test specimen, it will move to the Testable work queue.

    • Specimen record will automatically move to the Analyzed queue after test data has been entered and approve
    • Once the Specimen is in the Analyzed queue, lab testing is considered finished.
    • Test results for Specimens in the Analyzed queue will now display in Quality Control for review and reporting by the project manager. 
    • Test results can be edited from this queue click Edit Results.

    When entering lab results data, the Tab key can be used to navigate right / left in the data grid. The up / down arrows can be used to navigate vertically in a column. 

     

    Lab Filters

    Across the top of Lab Work Queues are several filter choices that allow you to refine the data returned within each Work Queue.

    FieldDescription

    Lab

    • Select from a dropdown list your desired lab
    • Default is All Labs

    Start/End Test Date

    • Enter a date or select a date from the calendar
    • Specimens will be returned that have a corresponding test date

    Project Number

    • Type in a complete or partial project number

    Sample Number

    • Type in a specific sample number
    • Results returned will match the number entered exactly

    Set Number

    • Type in a specific set number
    • Results returned will match the number entered exactly

    Specimen Number

    • Type in a specific specimen number
    • Results returned will match the number entered exactly

    Difference in Test Age / Test Date in Lab and Quality Control

    After a specimen is checked into Lab, the specimen Test Date / Test Age can be updated in Lab.  You will not see this updated Test Date / Test Age in MetaField Quality Control until after a specimen status is updated to Analyzed in Lab.

    Analyzed marks the last status of a specimen in Lab. However, in MetaField a specimen status can be changed from Analyzed to Review or Complete. This change of status in MetaField is not reflected in Lab.

    • Allows for lab results / data input to be modified
    Approve
    • Designates tested specimen results as "Approved" and ready for project manager review in QC
    • Status changed to Analyzed in the QC module and moved to the Done queue in Lab
    • Only users with appropriate permissions can approve LIMS results
    • User will be asked if they want to generate a batch report (can be generated across multiple projects)
    Add Specimen
    • Adds a missing specimen to a selected set
    Revert Test Results
    • Removes any lab data and puts the specimen back in the Testable or To Test queue
    View Field Data
    • Opens QC to view additional metadata (i.e. field test results) for a specimen
    • Sample/Specimen data can be updated with the appropriate permission level
    • "i" icon in the grid on the far right


    Done
    • Specimen record will automatically move here after it is approved in the To Review queue
    • Reported Status filter exists to filter your results on the Reported Status of test (specimen) record - All, Draft, Reported, Not Reported

    Edit Results

    Retained Specimens

    Stores any specimen records that have been Retained during the Test Assignment process.

    Specimens in the Retained Specimens queue can either be assigned to new tests or discared

    When assigning to new tests, the Specimen can be "Split", where new tests can be assigned to the same sample while the original sample is left in the Retained Specimen queu

    ButtonFunction
    Assign TestsAllows for new tests to be assigned to the same specimen.  
    Discard SpecimensDiscarding a specimen will mark it as completed and remove it from the Retained Specimen queue.  The specimen will no longer be visible in the LIMS module.



    Lab Filters

    Filters exist above the various work queues to help you narrow the results of the queue you are working on.

    Tip

    Users have the option to save commonly-used filters along with collapsing the filter pane to expose more space for the queue grid.
